Junior League Play
Come join us in 2017!

Our Junior League Golf program is an opportunity for Playing and an Introduction to Competition. In this very popular program players ages 9-13 (younger by evaluation and up to age 14 for fall and spring) are put on a team of 8-10 players.  Each week players from each team are paired in twosomes (and sometimes threesomes depending on the week) and those twosomes play a "match" against two players from another team.  It is a scramble format which means that each player tees off and they pick the best shot.  Each player hits the second shot from that location of that best first shot and so on until the ball is holed on the green. Players keep score as a twosome and turn in a scorecard to their coach at the end of the 9-hole round.  Wins and losses are tallied by team with a league finish determined at the end of the season.

Junior League includes:
  • Each travel competition is one (1) team-vs-team, 2-person scramble format.
  • Weekly 60-minute practices at your choice of TPC Cromwell (Wed. 530-630pm all seasons) or Tunxis Plantation Country Club (Fridays 6-7pm) all seasons). Practice day subject to change based on schedule.
  • Players will participate in 4-6 regular season competitions, with 2 or 3 away matches at other golf clubs in your league.
  • Most competitions are held on Sundays (afternoon times).
  • Transportation to the matches is provided by families or friends.
  • Each match will consist of 9-holes of scramble play and will last approximately 2-3 hours.
  • The summer league season, running from late June to early August, provides travel teams with the opportunities to win their league and advance to the state regionals, state championship, regional championship and national championship.
  • Parents, grandparents and friends are encouraged to come and watch all matches. Carts are available for a $10 flat fee at most facilities.
  • A postseason registration fee will apply to players progressing to the All-Star Team for the official Summer Season.
Other Requirements

-  Players younger than 9 will be evaluated on skill level and course experience for inclusion.
-  Tryouts may be scheduled to determine team assignments.
-  This is a developmental league, however, all players must be able to carry their own clubs, make their own club selections, keep score, and consistently hit the ball forward and in the air.

What Is PGA Junior League?
What People are Saying

"Matthew really enjoyed playing in a team environment.  One in which he could play with his friends and make new ones while working together in a competitive environment.  Beyond the fun of playing golf, he was able to enjoy being a kid with his friends.  If you are fortunate enough to make it to the National Championship, the experience is one in a million and one that no child or parent will forget.  The professionals that teach are enthusiastic about the league and it inspires the kids to enjoy their time on the course.  If anyone has a son or daughter that plays golf or wants to learn how to play golf, this is the best environment to start that journey."
SWG Junior League Parent

"The team format is a fun way to play, and junior league is a great way to be with friends and golf at the same time. If you're a new player, you will have an experienced player to guide you along. If you're a skilled player, it's rewarding to be able to teach the game to a younger player and all-stars is tons of fun, especially as you advance further and further."

Suzy Whaley Golf has captained an All Star Team for three years' straight in the PGA Junior League National Championships! Only 8 teams in the country make it each year. We were one of 2500 teams to make it in 2016.

We've had a ton of fun and played a lot of golf in those three years and we would love for you to join us this year!
